  1. During Shrove was the time that people were married olden times. Nowadays people get married all during the year except during lent. Long ago people had a wedding for two or three days and nights, but now the wedding only lasts a few hours. The old people considered Wednesday and Thursday the luckiest days to get married. They also believed Shrove was the proper time. The old custom was that everybody who did not marry during Shrove should be chalked on chalk Sunday.
