- The name of the townland in which I live, and in the which this school is situated, is Glaun. It is in the parish of Schull about three miles from the village, in the county of Cork, in the Barony of West Carbery. It is bounded on the north by the Glaun river, on the east by Mound Gabriel, on the south by "Fionn's Ridge" and on the west by the Lios a Cata river.
There is a river in Glaun but it is a mere stream compared with some larger rivers. Trout and salmon are fished there. There is one deep hole called 'Áth na gCaorach' from the shallow ford nearby, over which, I suppose, sheep crossed.
There was once a wood growing in the slopes of Mount Gabriel - bounding Glaun. It was planted by Dr. Hicks, the landlord of Mount Gabriel who lived in Derreenatra. Only shrubs, small holly bushes and small oaks now remain(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
