  1. Shops were common in this district in olden times.
    Some people had not to go to the nearest towns to make purchases as there was often a shop near their homes.
    Money was not always given for goods, the people sometimes got goods on what is called "tick" in this district.
    It was not considered unlucky to transact business on certain days. There are many accounts of pedlars in this district.
    Some coins and types of money have gone out of use, such as, four penny pieces and crowns.
