  1. Many sad things happened to the people of this district from time to time.
Two men named Mr. Cook and Mr. Clark from Cavan came on a town to Lough Sheelin.
One day they went out to a little island on the lake and as they were coming back they went into a whirl pool and were drownd. A man who was standing on the shore and saw them disappear knew that they had gone into the hole. Along with another man who had been on the scene he swam over and found them just sinking. They brought them to the shore but the men died soon after.
