    Búachaill abhí pósta ar cáilin an dheas. Ní rabh síad ibhfád pósta gur eirigh an fhear tinn. Dubhairt an dochtuir leis an nach bfhuigheadh sé biseach.
    Na bhfaghann tusa bás ars an bean beidh mise marbh romhat no brisfidh mo croidhe. Thainig dearbrátar an fhir tinn rug amharc air agus d'íarr sé air a thiomna a dheanamh no go mbéadh a bhean pósta sula mbéad sé tamall ar bíth marbh,
    "A" ar seisean "beidh sise marbh romsa no brisfidh a croidhe".
    "Maith go leór" ars an fhear "bfuil fhios agat caide deanfhas míse."
    "Lomfaidh mé an coileach franncach anocht ata amuigh annsin agus beidh tusa ar taobh amhain den teach agus ise ar an taobh eile.

    And charity doth here abound to strangers from a foreign land
    The Pilgirm on his way to God the mendicant oppressed with care
    The weary wanderer on the road, all seek Glengevlin's Valley fair.

    The towering heights of the Cuilceagh mountains and "Sliabh na Coillec" rugged hills
    Which leaves the vale more lovely still,
    From Limerick trace the Shannon's course and all round its majestic rare
    And you'll find its source and rising place in "Sweet Glengevlin's Valley fair.

    But I must go to my sad woe from youthful scenes which I adore
    'Midst foreign isles where freedom smiles, and leave that lovely sainted shore
    My memory clings but can't forget, first raised with joy, now sank in care
    But till I return, a long farewell, to sweet "Glengevlin's Valley Fair."
