Saint Patrick was on his way to Granard, he passed through the parish of Killoe, about eight miles from Granard, on the leading road to Longford town.
Being weary and hungry he called at a farmer's house for refreshments.
The woman of the house killed, and cooked a hound for the meal. When dinner was ready Saint Patrick made the Sign of the Cross over the roast.
Immediately the hound jumped off the table, barked, and began to wag his tail. Saint Patrick was very angry, and he said that nothing would grow on that land but shrub.
