    Home-made Toys
    17th February, 1938.
    Long ago the children found amusement in spare time by making their own toys. There were no toy-shops then like now-a-days. When the children want toys they can go to the toy-shop and buy any toy they prefer.
    In the long Summer evenings the girls used to make chains from daisies and other flowers. The mothers used to make dolls to amuse the little ones, out of wool and pieces of cloth. First they used to form the wool into the shape of a doll and then cover it with cloth. They also made "Jack in the Box." The shape of the box was a square with a toy-man sitting within.
    It was a custom long ago for the children to have "prankins" or wooden spoons made
