   The bride and groom would sit on the same side on the car, the bridesmaid and groomsman would also sit on the same side of the car. When they would arrive back they would have a big dinner and after that there would be a dance and after that the bride and groom would leave for their home. It was always an old custom for a gang of “strawboys” as they are called, to gather to the bride’s house and dance and make fun. The chief time of the year for getting married is called Shrove Tide. It is forbidden to get married in Lent or Advent. It was always an old custom for a fear to make it up, and block the road upon the bride and groom, after they left the church, and the groom would have to give them some money before they would let him pass by.
