- (continued from previous page)There's a fort in the lands of Jas. McCormack of Boherguill situate at Corrydonlon Rathowen W'estmeath part of the lands of the Manly Estate. The fort is about 25 yards in diameter, is circular in shape. A row of whitethorn together with a few trees (beech etc) surround it. The side in one part looks as if it were originally faced with stone.
Mulvey's fort Drungildra, Farnaught, Mohil Co. LetirimA small fort in the centre of the land at its highest point - pretty good view from the fort on all sides.Poteen was being made there at one time and the Revenue men were coming to raid the spot. When within a hundred yards or so of the place they wheeled suddenly and made for another fort about a half a mile away. It was believed it was the Gentry (Good People) who saved the situation and the man who had the still working left two quarts of the best in the fort to show how grateful he was. One was taken and he got a hint to remove the other. There is a very peculiar looking stone standing in the centre of a field on that farm. An ash, a holly and a whitethorn are growing around it. A branch of the whitethorn seems to be growing through the stone.- Collector
