  1. (continued from previous page)
Legan when a Protestant man named Hill who was winnowing oats asked him to raise the wind to blow off the chaff.
Fr Yorke replied that it might blow strong enough before he was finished. The wind began to rise until it blew all Hill's oats through the land.
Afterwards until Fr Yorke was removed from the parish the Protestants treated him with the greatest courtesy and respect.
Edward Maguire, ex Post-man Rathowen, aged 70, native of Legan :- says Fr. Yorke was Parish Priest of Legan, he died there and is buried in the church there. It was he had the marble altar erected in the chapel.
Dr. F. Yorke Edgeworthstown claims to be of the same family. He says the priests' Christian name was Gregory. Dr. Yorke's grandparents were from Ballymahon.
A very well known priest of the same name and family died in San Francisco within the last 20 years. He was to meet Dr Mannix on his way to Ireland in 1920
