  1. The cure for a sty is a gooseberry thorn, and bless yourself three times and then burn the thorn. The rough side of an ivy leaf draws a wound and the smooth side heals it. The water a blacksmith used to cool irons cures a wart. The milky juice from a dandelion cures a wart, and put holy water on them for nine Fridays in succession. Hot buttermilk is a cure for a cold, and a sore throat or put a poultice of roasted salt on one's throat and it cures it. A roasted potato tied in a stocking, round your throat cures a sore throat.
