  1. Long ago in 1845 a famine occurred. The blight on the potatoes caused the famine. Several families died of starvation. The particular families in this district who suffered mostly were McDonalds, Smiths, O'Dalys, O'Nolans, Gaynors, McGees, O'Neills, O'Briens, O'Hegartys, Dowlings, O'Driscolls and O'Candons. At this time the landlord's name was Sir Malcolm Campbell who was an English-man.
    During the famine the Irish died in thousands on the side of the roads. Any person who was found out-side their house
