  1. There were candles made in Mr. Gilmor's. They were made from rushes which grew wild and fat which was got from the butchers. They peeled the rushes and steeped them, and then sent them to Castletown where they were shaped and cleaned and wicks were put in them. Mr. McDermott did this work. The Gilmor's still know the way to make candles.
