- The burning of lime is a very old industry in this country. Long ago nearly all large farmers had their own Lime kilns as they put the Lime on their land as a fertilizer. The kiln was built in a dry field, some were built of stone, others were built of fire bricks. To make lime you would want large lime stone rocks from a quarry. In the olden days the owner of the lime kiln would burn lime with turf. He covered the floor of the kiln(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
