Some years ago, some men were attending a funeral in this cemetery, and the saw at the side of the grave that had just been opened a skeleton of a man with one hand under his head and his knees drawn up to his mouth. They also saw another skeleton lying on its face with its back turned upwards and the hand under the mouth. From this they concluded that during this awful time many must have been buried alive.
The two carts that were used to take away the dead bodies were kept in the fever hospital Kells up to about 25 years ago.
