On St Stephen's Day, a number of boys disguise themselves with old clothes and false faces and go around from house to house singing and dancing, for which they receive money. This money is divided equally among them. It is not usual in this district to kill a wren, but the old rhyme is used.

The wren, the wren, the king of all birds
St Stephen's Day, was caught in the furze,
Although he was small, his family was great.
So rise up you lady, and give us a treat
Up with the kettle and down with the pan.
