  1. There was a rebellion in the year 1916. The principal leader was shot in Dublin by the English Volunteers and Police were carrying on war fare.
    Police were being ambushed and shot when the English government sent over a lot of ex soldiers and ex convicts out of jail. Some Black and Tans were sent to Miltown Malbay.
    They occupied the Bank and the Barracks, which is now in ruins. On the 14th of April 1920 a crowd of boys and women were singing and dancing around a tar barrel in honour of the prisoners who were set free.
