leather for soles was purchased from Meyers of Clonmel. Little timber pegs were used instead of nails. Mens boots were sold at 9/- per pair and ladies at 5/6 and 6/- per pair. Several men were constantly employed and much money circulated in the locality. The custom of boot making has fallen away owing to the craze of country people for light shoes. he shoe makers have grown old and many of them seem to have died and young boys to not seem to care for the trade of their fathers. There are only a few cobblers around able to earn their living by repairing boots and shoes.
