  1. Local Poets
    Larry Dillon was a local poet. He lived in Derry, Rathcabbin. He was born in 1766 and died in 1846 at the age of 80 yrs. His grave is in the old cemetery at Lorrha.
    Mr. Dillon composed songs and verses for the people who asked him. These are the names of a few of his songs
    "The Shades of Sweet Belleisle"
    "Portland Plains"
    "The Maid of Sweet Gurteen"
    Some of Mr. Dillon's songs were sung around Lorrha up to a few years ago.
    All his songs are in English.
    Mr. Dillon had some very witty sayings and he could make a verse about a person after he had been looking at him for a few moments.
    None of his ancestors composed verses.
