to Russia, where Peter the great was reigning. From the last rank in the army Lacy rose to Field Marshal, having the troops against the Turks, Poles, Sweeds, and Finnis. Peter De-Lacy spent some time in France before going to Russia, where he learned the French system of drill. After landing in Russia he joined the army and soon rose to the highest rank, obtaining supreme command of the Russian army.
Peter immediately decided to change the discipline and tactics of the Russian soldiers, who were then perhaps the worst soldiers in Europe. Peter ordered a new system of drill and from being the worst soldiers they soon became the best soldiers in Europe.
