   A relation of the writer of this article was sent on an urgent sick call for a doctor from Inchabawn to Newcastle a distance of some seven miles. It was rather late when he left home and perhaps he had a considerable delay in finding the doctor. He left Newcastle West at Midnight (that witching hour when graveyards yawn and tombs give up their dead) on the principal means of locomotion then in vogue - a saddle horse, and started for his own home via old Barna. On reaching Ashe's old ruin just at the foot of the hill he espied the monsterous hound running side by side with the horse who was now trembling like a leaf and in a lather of foam from head to foot.
   When the present railway bridge now spans the old road way the demon took a flying leap and landed behind him on the horse and enquired as to where he was what was his business and why he was abroad so late. The poor man now more dead than alive replied as best he could
