small price. In a parish adjoining ours he carried out a terrible campaign evicting all his tenants and breaking in the walls of their houses. The people offered a very stubborn resistence and fought hard to hold their homes but some of the tenants had to go for good. The Police helped the landlord here, and any persons working for the landlord were called "Black legs" and had to work under police protection. This was known as the "Curass campaign." Pigs were often given as payment of rent long ago. Those landlords are all gone and we are not sorry, yet we wish them peace.
