Mass was celebrated in a place called Rock Chapel about fifty yards from where the present Chapel is now, in the land of Timothy Curtin. In the parish of Newmarket, in the Barony of Duhallow, in the Co. Cork. Mass was said in Scarteen Glen. It is said that, Father McCarthy was captured by the priest hunters and was slain. This glen is called Gleann-an-Aifreann, in the parish of Clonfert in Co. Cork. Masses were said in the houses and since that time it is a custom to have stations held in the house. I obtained this from my mother Nora Keane age 46 yearsThomas Keane
