  1. Boetius Egan, a Franciscan, bishop of Ross was hanged by Broghill at Carrigadrohid in 1650 for exhorting the Irish against the soldiers of Cromwell.
    Bishop de Courcey is said to be buried in that part of Timoleague Abbey where a beautiful Celtic cross has been erected to the memory of Callaghan Mc Carthy, father of the late Dr John Mc Carthy, Bishop of Cloyne, and grandfather of the late Very Rev. Canon Michael O'Hea and the late Rev. T. G. O'Hea Clogagh and of Mrs T. Canty and great grandfather of John Mc Carthy-O'Hea solicitor Bandon.

    Edmond De Courcey resigned the See of Ross on account of his old age, in favour of his relative John Immurily (O'Hurley) Abbot of Abbeymahon. The document of resignation was witnessed by Cornelius Cahalane, Guardian of Timoleague Abbey, and by Lady Elinora Mc Carthy of Kilbrittain Castle.
