- (continued from previous page)and to throw it on the floor say "the fort is on fire". The man in bed jumped up and said "my wife will be burned so". That man or the son never returned.
The Danes were supposed to have built these forts and to put soldiers in them to hold the country.
People never interfered with these forts when ploughing or planting crops because some people who did became crippled. There was once a man who went to till a fort. He became powerless in the back and never straightened until he died.
In houses that are near forts it is known that the fairies did come in and take away things at night. These things would be left back again in the morning.
People often saw lights and heard music in these forts. There are two in Durrow (Ballymoe Co. Galway), one in Cloonruff (Ballymoe Co. Galway) one in Lios-na-gCaorach (Ballymoe Co. Galway) another is in Shankoo (Ballintubber Co. Roscommon) and another is in Cloonfad (Castlerea Co. Roscommon).- Collector
