  1. In that sweet little town of Dunmanway,
A tailor by trade I was bound,
And many's a year of misfortune I spent in
    that sweet little town.
When some cruel misfortune came over me
that drove me so far from my home.
Far away from my friends and realations.
    Likewise the black velvet band.
    2.
As I was going over the causeway intended
    not long for to stay.
I met with a pretty fair lady she was
    tripping along the byway,
She was thin tall fair and handsome and
her her neck was just like to the swan,
And her hair was trown over her shoulders.
Tied up with a black velvet band.
