  1. The kind of bread made locally was Oaten meal bread, potato bread, boxty and Pancoges. It was made from oats and it was ground in a mill in Culcastle. Barney Flannery that owned that mill. Pancoges were baked between two cabbage leaves on the hearth. They were made of Indian meal mixed with water. The potato cake was made of boiled potatoes bruised and mixed with flour. It was baked in a pan. Boxty was made of raw potatoes. A piece of tin with holes in it was got called a
