Soft and thick they lie

See how soft they gather
Filling all the air".
This marks the beginning of a fall of snow. The weather previously is cold and the sky is of a leaden colour.
By and by the soft feathery flakes come down in millions, and cover every place with a lovely white mantle. It is delightful to take a walk on the soft snow.
Everywhere we go, we can be traced. The dogs seem to take a special delight in the snow. They race along the ground, and cover themselves with "the powdery snow that rises up like smoke.
