  1. There is a fair held in the town of Monaghan on the first Monday of each month. Sometimes the buyers come out along the roads to meet the cattle coming in to the fair. Sometimes they meet on a cross-road.
Sometimes the buyers come to the houses before the fair to buy cattle.
The fair is held in the "Cow-Green" in Monaghan. There is no fair held in this district but in olden times there was a fair held in the townland of Knockboy.
A luck penny is given back to the buyer out of every head of cattle sold.
When an animal is "sold" a mark is put on it's back and it is put into a yard.
