  1. DROWNINGS
    There were two drowning accidents in this district 20 years ago.
    A young man was returning home late, and on the way had to cross the Canal by means of one of the lock bridges. His foot apparently slipped and next morning he was found drowned.
    An old man was drowned in a small river that runs through Templetate townland. He too was returning home late and had to cross a foot-stick and fallen in.
    BURNINGS
    A mansion belonging to the Scudamore Family was burned at Castleshane about 20 years ago.
    PLAGUES
    The 'flu visited Tyholland in 1916 and again in 1926.
