  1. There are many stories told locally of Freney the Robber.
He is said to have lived for some time in a house in Ballycocksoost Inistioge and the place where the house stood is to be seen in a field of Mr Andrew Hogan's which borders the old road in Ballycocksoost near where Mr John Fleming lives.
He is also said to have worked in Ballyduff House as butler. On one occasion he was attending the dinner table and one of the guests boasted that he had no fear of robber nor of carrying a large sum of money.
Before he left the house Freney slipped away and waylaid and robbed him on his way home.
