  1. Long ago people began to wear boots at the age of seven. I often heard of people who never wore shoes, except on Sundays. Children go barefoot in Summer but boots and shoes are worn by everybody during the Winter. The water used for washing feet is thrown out.
Boots are not made locally now. In former times boots were made locally but factory boots are now very plentiful and are worn by everybody. Clogs are not worn now but were fairly common about twenty five years ago. Leather was made near Thomastown by Ryan the Tanner some years ago but it is not made now.
Corns and bunions come on the feet. They are very sore and should be looked after. Tight shoes very often are the cause of corns and you should wear shoes that give your feet plenty of room. To cure corns the feet should be washed in water and soda. This softens the corns and makes it easy to cut them away. A cure for chilblains is to bathe them in parafin oil in which a boiled turnip is steeping.
