    very little flour wet with boiling water this was known as Palk. Bread was then, as at present, baked in a griddle or bastable.
    Now home baking is also done in a stove oven. Shop bread is made by men in a bakery and is not as nourishing as home made bread. Then there is fancy bread and buns, which are made by a confectioner but a thrifty housewife always bakes her fancy bread at home.
