    Some years before I was born Father Shannahan was a Kerry priest who was supposed to be the best runner and leaper in Europe.

    Fr Shannahan threw another wonderful leap near the village of Boherbee. He leaped across the road, fences, and all and the place is still pointed out by people of the place, and called Fr. Shannahan's Leap.
    The Parishioners of the three parishes of Boherbee used bring a load of turf each every year to the Parish Priest. One day when all the turf was brought in and piled up into a huge reek by the Parishioners the P.P. and all the crowd were admiring it, and saying it was a fine reek. The P.P. and Fr. Shannahan were both there. The P.P. thought there was not a man in Ireland to leap over the reek of turf, it was so high, and he thought he would have a joke at Fr. Shannahan.
    He said there was not a man in Ireland could jump over the reek. Fr. Shannahan said there was, that he knew a man himself who would jump it. Off course the P.P. knew it was himself meant to leap it but he did not believe he could. He pulled out a pound note and said he would wager the pound that he could get no one to leap it. Fr. Shannahan pulled out another pound, and they put the two pound notes down near the reek of turf. Fr. Shannahan went at it and
