- At home on my father’s farm we have seven cows two of which are black, three of which are red, one of which is white and and grey. We have six calves three two-year olds, one horse, one ass and three sheep. One cow is called the “Kerry cow” and is so called because she came from County Kerry. She is a low-sized black cow. Another cow is called “Rory.” She is so called because it was from a man named Rory Gilmartin my father bough her. When a cow is wanted to be quiet “Hursh” or “Pruggy” is said.
