  1. There was an old school in Sooey old chapel and it was about three hundred yards away from the back of Sooey creamery.
    The master who used to teach in that school was master Quinn. He used to live with the neighbours. The people had to give money to the master because he was teaching them. Those who went to him were taught English reading, writing and spelling but no Irish was taught.
    The pupils used to sit on blocks of wood and also on round stones. In the mornings every person had to bring two sods of turf to make a fire.
