  1. Garret Cullen of Drumahair, Co Leitrim, was a famous walker. he made a bet with Marley Palmer of the same place, who was driving a horse and car that he would be in Sligo before him. The bet was a five pound note.
    Cullin walked all the way to Sligo and kept to the road all the time. He arrived in Sligo before the horse and car and won the bet.
    Terry Sheridan of Lavally Ballintogher, Co Sligo jumped a nine-inch board which was placed on the shoulders of two men.
