  1. About a mile and a half north of Miltown is a wood which is called "Cill an Chlocháin". At the top of this wood in a lonely spot which is far away from all roads, are the ruins of an old school. It is said that it existed in the time of Saint Carthage. About thirty students were taught here at a time by very learned men who were then called "Ollamhs". The students were the sons of chieftains. The "Ollamhs" lived in a hut by themselves, while each pupil lived in a hut by himself. The huts had no windows and were built of stone and mortar.
Poetry was the principal subject taught there besides Latin and Greek.
