  1. Once upon a time there was an old woman who had but one son. He was very fond of gambling and of going to the house where all the men came together for the gambling. He had to cross an old "sliab", a very lonesome place. He followed the same path every night. One night he was out very late. When he was coming through the "sliab", he saw a light. He came on to a nice cottage. He knew very well that there should be no cottage there. In the doorway there was a man standing who said how late he was out and asked him why he was out so late.
