in a stone in the bank and then it was a custom for everyone who passed to throw in a stone; now there is a big mound of stones in it. A bush grew there afterwards and it was called the "Colonel bush".
There are two big stones in Cloonart, one at the road and the other at the river and there is another in Cloonether beyond the river. They are about 60 perch from one and other. It is said that a giant gave a step from one of the stones to the other. The three stones are in a straight line.
There is a druids altar in John O'Beirnes field in Clooneen. Some of the stones are tons in weight and are built like a wall (?) and a couple of big stones for the altar. It is surrounded by a great many trees. There are words and letters carved out on it.
