  1. Saint Togher
    The saint traditionally connected with this district is Saint Togher. From her this district gets its name, and Ven. Archdeacon Donohoe named a ward in the reconstructed County Home, Carrick-on-Shannon, in her honour. At present little is known about her, evidently hidden life. She was a kind and devoted nurse and since her death young mothers have great devotion to her.
    Tradition holds that this saint is buried in Kiltoghert graveyard. Her grave is marked by a peculiar tombstone on which the following are carved, a loaf of bread, a roll of butter, and a candle. These engravings refer
