  1. In this parish there are two forges one at Tullycooley cross-roads and the other convenient to Ballinagar Church. The first named is worked by John Hamilton and the other by Pat Leydon. Mr. Leydon is working for about 30 years and he learned it from his father who worked all his life at the smith trade. John Hamilton has been a smith for 50 years and he learned his trade from a man named Early. The roof of Hamiltons forge is galvinized iron but some years ago it was roofed with timber. The forge door is in two parts and the under one can be closed and the other one left open to admit light. There is but one chimney in the forge but in larger forges there are two or perhaps three. The bellows is fan shaped and the air is forced through it by a wooden handle. Smiths bellows are generally made by companies in large towns. The impliments used in forge are sledges, smaller hammers, punches, tonges, compass, rasps and also the
