  1. A strong man.
About a hundred years ago there lived in Ardranny a man named Dan Dolan. His nephew lives there are the present time. He was a man of five feet four inches and was noted for his great strength. He carried forty stone of oats in a bag on his back up twelve stone steps in Hayden's yard in Ballinasloe. He carried the oats from the yard up to a loft which was over the yard.
The same man mowed an acre of hay in the day from eight o'clock in the morning til six in the evening. He used to sharpen his scythe when he started in the morning and he never sharpened it again till he returned after his dinner.
This information was received from my mother.
