    Pan-cakes were made for Shrove Tuesday. Sweet cakes are always made for Christmas, Easter, Hallow Eve and parties.

  2. Long ago people made oaten bread, wheaten bread and potato-cake. They grew their own wheat and corn. Then the ground it with a grindstone and made bread out of the meal. They also made their own flour.
    Water is used for baking oaten bread and butter-milk is used for baking flour bread. Long ago the people usually did the baking on a Saturday. Some people cut a cross on the top of the scone to keep it from cracking on the top.
