    And you never saw such fighting
    so they had about the lighting
    Until a bold promoter, stood up about them all
    and spoke in words so tender
    That he made them all surrender
    To the paying of the taxes in the town of Donegal.

    So the opposition lowed
    apologized, and vowed
    They were sorry for the trouble they had
    given after all
    and at once gave up their pranks
    and proposed a vote of thanks
    To (me) the men who'd light the alleys and
    the streets of Donegal.
