By looking at the stars, sun, moon and clouds these old people can foretell what sort of weather we are going to have.
If the sun sets clear in the west they say we are going to have good weather but if the sun sets in a red ball they foretell an approaching storm. If there is a ring round the moon that is a sign of a coming storm. When the stars shoot across the sky they say that there will be rain. When the clouds are tinged with red they say that bad weather is inevitable.
The old people have a wise saying about the rainbow. It is a “rainbow at night is a shepherd’s delights and a rainbow in the morning is a shepherd’s warning.”
The wind is an important factor in the weather. If it is in the West or South-West that is a sign of rain. If in the East frost and dry weather may be expected. When the wind is in the north in Winter, we are going to have snow.
