  2. The manor and castle of Lucan appear to have passed into the possession of the Sarsfield family early in the 16th century. In 1629 a patent was granted by King Charles 1 for delivery of the property of Sir William Sarsfield of Lucan in the County of Dublin to William his grandson and heir. This william Sarsfield (who was the elder brother of the celebrated General Patrick, who negotiated the Treaty of Limerick and fell at the battle of Londen) married
