- There is a great difference in the food which the people eat now and the foods eaten long ago. The people lived on three meals a day. Oatmeal bread, stirabout, sour milk and potatoes were the chief foods of this district.
Often the people long ago used to go out before their breakfast and dig some potatoes to be used during the day. People did not eat much meat out of the barrel. A lot of fish was caught in the Clodigh. Often they used to put no milk on the tea or put no butter on the bread. Tea was not used except on Christmas Day or Easter Sunday.- Bailitheoir
