  1. About forty years ago an old tinker lived in Ardnaree. He used to make stills for the people in which they used to make poteen. One night as he was going to a house in Cloonishlan about two miles to the east of Ardnaree with a still, the police followed him until they came to a wide drain. The tinker took a great leap and got across the drain but the police were unable to cross it. The tinker delivered the still and went home. The sargent came to the tinker's house the next day and said "That was a great jump you took last night. Then the tinker said "The devil thank me, look at the
