    About fifty years there at Carra a rich chiefin named O'Dowd of Ardnaree.
    One day while out fishing this chiftin saw a mermaid sitting on the strand combing her hair. She had a beautiful cloak by her side. O'Dowd on seeing the cloak admired it and took it with him.
    The mermaid missed the cloak after some time, and on seeing it with O'Dowd followed him. She had some talk with O'Dowd and soon fell in love with him.
    They soon afterwards got married, and had three sons. They lived happily together for many years. Unfortunately one day the
